Animal Health Australia is a dynamic partnership of governments and livestock industries that strengthens Australia’s animal health status and reinforces confidence in the safety and quality of our livestock products in domestic and overseas markets. The partnership initiates and manages collaborative programs that improve animal and human health, food safety and quality, market access, animal welfare, livestock productivity and national biosecurity. Animal Health Australia has 27 members spread across four categories; Australian government, state and territory governments, livestock industry organisations and service delivery organisations. Members have a high level of involvement in the management of all activities and have formal input to the development of company annual and strategic plans via the National Animal Health Consultative Group. This group meets twice a year to consult with the Board and management on issues relating to both the national animal health system and our role in addressing those issues. Through such mechanisms, our members have the opportunity to ensure that issues of importance to their jurisdiction or industry are addressed. Animal Health Australia's Member Charter can be viewed here. FundingMembers fund the company's activities via annual subscriptions that are calculated to a formula based on the Gross Value of Production (GVP) of the industry or jurisdiction using three-year rolling average. Consultative processesThe key factor behind the success of Animal Health Australia's programs is the ability of members to work together to achieve a common outcome. To ensure that all members have the opportunity to contribute to each stage of a project, the company has instituted a range of consultative processes that seek to engage members throughout the year. The National Animal Health Consultative Group is a national body that comprises representatives from each member organisation. The group meets twice a year to consult with the company on issues relating to both the national animal health system and the role of AHA in addressing those issues. The group also plays a major role in prioritising company activities. The Members' Workshop and Industry Forum coincide with general meetings and have a particular focus on the company and its performance, providing feedback directly to the Board and management. At a program level, Coordinating Committees and Technical Advisory Groups assist Program Managers in the operational aspects of particular programs. At all levels there is also the opportunity for ad hoc consultative groups to be convened to address specific issues facing the national animal health system, the company or particular programs.
