FMD Round Table

FMD Response Policy Review Joint Government-Industry Peak Body Round Table Consultation

AHA convened a high level joint government-industry peak body round table consultation meeting on 11 April 2011 in Melbourne to recommend policy framework options for revision of the FMD AUSVETPLAN Disease Strategy.

The objectives of the round table were:

  1. To gain industry and government recognition and understanding of the real risks and the enormity of handling an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) in Australia.
  2. For industries and governments to agree on a policy framework that recognises recent scientific and technical developments and enables their incorporation into the FMD AUSVETPLAN Disease Strategy.

Government and industry participants at the round table consultation meeting agreed to a revised risk-based response policy framework for FMD that incorporates flexibility to deal with the particular circumstances and phases of an outbreak, and that aims to balance effective disease control with business continuity.
