What is the National Sheep Health Statement

The National Sheep Health Statement includes a nationally agreed declaration for a number of significant conditions including OJD, footrot, ovine brucellosis and lice. Prospective buyers of sheep are able to assess the risk a line of sheep represents to their own flock. Buying or agisting sheep without a sheep health statement is considered a risky business as very little is known about them.

National Sheep Health Statements can be downloaded from the Farm Biosecurity Declarations & Statements page.

What information should I record on a National Sheep Health Statement when selling sheep?

The form is designed to guide you through the steps in declaring your sheep’s ABC score and annual health status for other conditions.

Having filled in your name, Property Identification Code, address and other details and added up your sheep’s score from the credits under the four categories, you must sign and date the declaration.

Completed National Sheep Health Statements are legal documents under State laws. They can be audited and there are penalties for false declarations. A false declaration could leave a producer liable to legal action.
