Animal Health Australia response to ABC article on draft Australian Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines for Poultry
21 Dec 2017
As Project Managers for the development of the draft Australian Animal Welfare Standards and Guidelines (S&Gs) for Poultry, Animal Health Australia (AHA) fully supports the NSW Department of Primary Industries in relation to their role as Contract Managers.
The S&Gs are currently in a draft format and are not final. AHA encourages all interested parties to make a submission so that a wide range of views are received, to aid the development of the next version of the S&Gs.
The S&Gs mark a significant step forward in poultry welfare in Australia, moving from the existing voluntary system to national regulation.
The combined input and expertise of all state and territory governments, peak livestock industry bodies and welfare organisations have been integral in the development of the draft S&Gs. This input was provided through participation on either the Animal Welfare Task Group or the Stakeholder Advisory Group.
Submissions can be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org or posted to Animal Welfare Standards Public Consultation, PO Box 5116, Braddon ACT 2612. Public consultation ends at 5pm on Monday 26 February 2018.
